Our Objectives
ARMD Riverina provides practical, street-based personal protection and self-defence programs to female students, professionals and promotes personal safety. We meet these objectives through interactive activities.
Program Background
The Respond.Empower.Liberate (REL) program was created in 2009 and predominantly lies around:
- situational awareness
- understanding violence dynamics
- threat avoidance
- threat recognition
- threat management
- pre-cue indicators
- and confident body-language profile
REL is not a Sports program. We base our methods on reality arising from domestic and non-domestic violence against women.
Since its inception, more than 1,600 women have completed the REL program, which is designed to provide strategies on how to deal with domestic and non-domestic violence.
A tried-and-tested combination of mind and body training makes the participants more aware of their potential strengths through learning effective principles and concepts to protect themselves against various assailants – whether they are armed or unarmed, in their house, in their car or on the streets.
Participants are shown basic self-defence strategies that can be used in a range of situations. The program equips the participants with basic tools to recognise, evaluate, avoid, negotiate and actively respond to circumstances that can lead to an assault.
The program is for all levels of fitness and has been developed specifically for women. No prior knowledge about self-defence is required and consists of a mixture of theoretical and practical elements building on one’s skills and confidence.
